Intorno al Giro

This is not the most recent version of this piece of music, nor is it the best recording of it. I am looking to expand this piece out to around 15-20 minutes as an entry for the 2022 Paul Lowin Orchestral Prize.

his piece has a somewhat convoluted history. I wrote the initial 48-seconds worth as a comedic mislead for a folksy birthday song that was being modified and overdubbed for the birthday celebration of a lovely art streamer named Bri Danann. The “epic” nature of the build to a key-change driven by the insistent ostinato was very effective, especially as a contrast to the birthday song that followed.

When I decided to apply for admission to CQU’s music program, I decided to expand this piece out significantly and added three more movements, as well as a stately coda. Here’s that original version.

Having a silly sense of humour means that my submission for the Lowins has taken this prelude to another slightly silly place, although that place is connected to a coherent theme that will be evident in the larger piece. Once I have a recording that I’m happy with of the larger piece, I’ll edit this post so you can see the final version.
